Biomass Plant: University of South Carolina. USC, a research campus in the heart of downtown Columbia South Carolina, will go live with a biomass plant that is expected to supply enough natural energy to heat and cool 85% of the University’s 10 million square feet of office and classroom space. The plant was born out of negotiations on a performance contract with Johnson Controls and helps substantiate the philosophy that business follows education when it comes to the formation of best practices.

Digester Gas Cogeneration Plant: Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant. Johnson Controls is working on a 3 MW combined heat and power plant that will generate more than 2.4 MW of electricity per year, generate steam to offset process heating requirements making more gas available for use in the plant and produce hot water for use in the boiler.

Johnson Controls has spent considerable time and resources verifying the feasibility of IES’s advanced pyrolysis technology and has aggressively pursued an affiliation with One Planet Energy to be the

design/build/operator of the first commercial facility(s) in Puerto Rico and/or Tahiti. Johnson Controls will play an integral role in One Planet’s Puerto Rico technology parks strategy since Johnson Controls has existing clients at multiple facilities in Puerto Rico. One of the sites recommended by PRIDCO is a location in Las Piedras which includes a Johnson & Johnson plant along with those of Amgen, Schering-Plough, and Becton Dickenson. All of these facilities are managed by Johnson Controls and they (along with PRIDCO and One Planet’s other Puerto Rican partners) have close relationships with management of these facilities.

Other locations with multiple Johnson Controls clients in Puerto Rico are Juncos, Grabl, and Manati. Johnson & Johnson is present at each of these locations and has existing relationships with the majority of manufacturers located in each of these “pods”.
